Structure Fire - Mormon Creed Rd., Lolo

August 19th, 2025

News release prepared by:
Deputy Chief Cory Horsens

Just before noon on August 19th, 2025, the Missoula Rural Fire District (MRFD) was dispatched to a structure fire in a single-family residence in the 9300 block of Mormon Creek Road in Lolo.
The first arriving fire engine reported heavy fire throughout most of the structure and initiated defensive fire operations. Crews were able to quickly knock down the bulk of the fire and were eventually able to enter the home to complete extinguishment. Another MRFD crew was able to quickly stop the spread of a small vegetation fire that was caused by the burning structure and had begun creeping into the adjacent forested area.
MRFD responded to this incident with two structure engines, one wildland engine, five water tenders, and a command unit. Assistance was provided by Missoula Emergency Services, Inc. and the Florence Volunteer Fire Department. As of the time of this media release, crews remain on scene extinguishing hot spots and salvaging as much of the owner’s property as they are able. Sadly, one of the family’s dogs perished in the fire.
MRFD fire investigators are on the scene and are working to determine the origin and cause of the fire.
